PROPOSED DECLARATION OF INDIGENOUS RESPONSIBLITIES RELATED TO RIGHTS

“We, the Indigenous people of Australia, having had our Rights acknowledged by the Australian Government in April 2009 through acceptance of the United Nation’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous peoples (UN 2007), now propose a Declaration of Indigenous Responsibilities.”

This Responsibilities document proposes to clarify for Indigenous people, the societal obligations which parallel the Rights document. The number of each responsibility (R1-30) coincides with the Rights number in the associated Declaration. The overlapping concepts necessitate a degree of repetition.
